What does Ahavah mean?? Listen in to today’s video as Chandalee and Jenn briefly share about the root of ahavah!
The short definition of ahavah is ‘to give.’ And, love doesn’t begin with us! In Hebrew, each individual letter represents a concept or an idea. Hebrew words truly are a sum of their parts. Let’s look quickly at the root of ahavah, which is ahav (אהב). Three small letters with significant meanings.
א = The letter aleph represents God. How fitting the word for love should start with aleph (God) as love can only begin with God.
ה = The letter hey represents God’s grace to us. God shows his grace to us by giving us his Son, Jesus, as our Savior and Redeemer and the Holy Spirit, as our Comforter and Guide.
ב = The letter beit represents a house. We are a vessel in which God dwells as the Holy Spirit, and he works in and through us to give love.
